HYPERTENSION AND LEVITRA

Friday, April 25th, 2008

High blood pressure or Hypertension is one of the major causes behind erectile dysfunction or male impotence. It has been found that more than 40 percent men with erectile dysfunction are suffering from high blood pressure or hypertension. This is mainly because hypertension impairs the ability of blood vessels to open and allow normal blood flow to the penis as well as to the other parts of human body. We all know that blood flow has a crucial role to play in erectile function. PDE5 inhibitors work mainly on blood flow to the penile section.

The disease itself is responsible for a man’s erectile problems, but at the same time, the medicines like particularly beta-blockers and diuretics, which are prescribed to treat hypertension, are also responsible for causing erectile dysfunction to a great extent. It is one of the serious factors for ED, affects 29.4 million men in the United States of America . As the patients with hypertension know that they will suffer ED after taking the medication, they show concern to their physicians about it. Dr. Matthew Rosenberg, medical director at Mid-Michigan Health Centers in Jackson , MI says that his male patients are afraid of taking anti-hypertensive drugs due to the fear of erectile problem.

But there is something good in store for the men with hypertension. The Journal of Sexual Medicine published a data in which it says that Levitra, the Vardenafil HCI, can treat erectile dysfunction in men who are taking one or more anti-hypertensive drugs. Men who used Levitra concomitantly with the high blood pressure lowering drugs, it showed overall an 83 percent success in attaining and maintaining penile erection.

The scientists of GlaxoSmithKline had predicted that Vardenafil HCI is a strong molecule and is more effective than other PDE5 inhibitors available in the market. In case of hypertension related erectile dysfunction, patients suffering from this condition can now heave a sigh of relief. Dr Hermann Van Ahlen, University of Muenster , Germany stated that Levitra was well-tolerated and is efficient in giving erection when used with those drugs for the treatment of hypertension . However newer anti-hypertensive drugs including angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARBs) are less probable to induce impotency.

The efficacy of Levitra has equipped the physicians with the treatment of hypertension as well as erectile dysfunction. Dr. Matthew Rosenberg is very confident about helping his patients with hypertension and erectile dysfunction induced by the condition.

A study conducted in Germany by Dr Hermann Van Ahlen involved 354 patients above the age of 18 years with an experience of erectile dysfunction for more than 6 months. The patients were grouped according to the anti-hypertensive medicines they were taking to treat high blood pressure. Levitra was found well-tolerated and mainly effective in improving the erection quality in all patients using different types of hypertension drugs. With the help of Levitra, they were able to complete successful intercourse with their significantly improved erection.
Levitra ignites hope of better sexual life in men with hypertension. At times we also see the parallel presence of diabetes and hypertension in some patients. Now, there is no need to live a loveless life when Levitra is there for help. Because, Levitra can give erection for successful intercourse in cases of diabetes as well as hypertension.

LEVITRA & NAION

Friday, April 11th, 2008

NON-ARTERITIC ANTERIOR ISCHEMIC OPTIC NEUROPATHY or NAION is a medical condition of the eye. A person suffering from NAION has a swelling in the optic nerve which leads to a rapid diminution in vision, even though he may not experience any pain. NAION often hits in the morning with vision loss and gets worsen in a period of one or two weeks. NAION is caused by the sudden blockage in the optic nerve due to the increased blood flow.

In extremely rare cases, PDE5 inhibitors like Vardenafil, Sildenafil and Tadalafil may cause NAION; though the reasons have not been established till date. But all the cases of NAION cannot be attributed to the PDE5 inhibitor medications alone, as NAION is found to occur in many people who have never taken the PDE5 inhibitors.

People who are prone to suffer from NAION generally have one or more of the following medical conditions:

  • Heart disease
  • 50 years and above age
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Smoking habit
  • Prior eye problems

This nullifies the commonly believed notion that Levitra is the main cause of NAION in men. NAION patients would have suffered from the same ailment even if they haven’t taken Levitra at any point of time in their lives. It is just a matter of coincidence with patients of erectile dysfunction and NAION falling under the same age category.
As per the ruling of the FDA, Bayer and GlaxosmithKline have included information on the possible occurrence of NAION on the Levitra labels. Nevertheless, if you face a sudden vision loss, discontinue the use of Levitra and seek emergency medical help.

Levitra Story: Peter Robbins of Chicago, Illinois. Age: 72

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

I’m Peter, and I haven’t had an erection in 16 years, due to ED.  At least, I haven’t had one until recently — I have discovered Levitra.

I have been married to my wonderful wife Lily for 48 years now.  Almost time for our gold anniversary.  I am sure that we’ll make it to 50 and even further — we couldn’t be happier together.  Especially now.  Since discovering Levitra, our love life has never been so good.  I don’t think it has been this good since we were in our twenties.  Of course back then we didn’t know as much.

About 16 years ago I started to have trouble in the bedroom.  I lost the ability to acheive erection and make love to my wife.  I felt like I lost all control.  I felt like all my power had been taken away from me, like I was no longer important.  I felt almost like my wife didn’t need me for anything anymore.  Of course I was wrong.  My wife Lily, God bless her, loves me no matter what.  Even this new problem couldn’t faze her.  But I knew she was disappointed.  She wouldn’t tell me, but I could feel it.  There was a sense of something that we lost, but couldn’t explain, and it never went away.  We even stopped going dancing, because we just weren’t in the mood anymore to do that kind of thing.  Lily stuck with me through it all though, and I can’t thank her enough for her support.

Levitra just wasn’t around back then, and there was nothing like it either, so there was really nothing I could do.  I went to the doctor anyways, but he explained that there wasn’t much a man in my shoes could do about it.  I had been a fairly heavy smoker for many years, and that’s what caused the impotence.  He told me that the circulation to my penis was being cut off as a result of the damage caused by cigarette smoking.  It’s a terrible thing.  Back when I started smoking, no one told us there was anything wrong with it.  No one explained that it could be bad for your health.

Lily and I started hearing about Levitra a couple of years ago.  I remember when we saw the first news story on it.  We watched it together, but we didn’t say a word about it.  We just watched and listened.  I think we were both interested, but we were too afraid to say anything about it.  We come from a generation that just doesn’t discuss matters of sex, and especially not problems with erections.  It’s a taboo subject.

The turning point came when two of our best friends — Albert and Linda, revealed to us that they had begun using Levitra recently, and were having the best sex of their lives.  It became something we couldn’t ignore anymore, so I went to the doctor.  I was presribed a 10 mg dose of the drug.

It took just under an hour to take effect, but Lily and I were amazed at the results.  We made love for hours in that first night — for the first time in 16 years.  Our newfound passion has brought us closer together than ever, and we have never been this happy.
